Ultra Wideband

Ultra Wideband

Ultrawideband (UWB) has emerged as the leading technology to address consumer wireless personal area networking (WPAN) applications. Teledyne LeCroy released the first UWB protocol analyzer for WiMedia-based Wireless PANs in April of 2005. Teledyne LeCroy also offers oscilliscope solutions designed to perform EVM analysis at the WiMedia phyical layer.
What is Ultra Wideband?

Short distance high throughput wireless communications ideal for WPAN (wireless personal area network).
Utilizes a low power (-41db) signal from 3.1 to 11.6 GHz with channel bandwidths of ~ 500 MHz.

Will not interfere with other wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi, WiMAX, and cellular

What is WiMedia Alliance?

Non-profit industry association, including Intel, HP, Phillips, Kodak, and Microsoft aiming to have standards adopted by IEEE

Collaborates on developing and administering specs from the physical layer up
Enables connectivity and interoperability for multiple industry-based protocols sharing the MBOA-UWB spectrum

What is Wireless USB?

First volume utilization of ultra wideband technology

Achieves the same performance as wired high speed USB connection

Maximum bandwidth of 480 Mb/s at 3 meters
